15(1):16-22, Jan 2008. Thurston, Rebecca C. PhD 1,2 Abstract: Objectives: This discover tested the speculation that women exposed to infancy abuse or neglect would get an increased likelihood of reporting febrile flashes and nightfall sweats during the menopausal transition.
Design: This hypothesis was evaluated in 332 caucasian and African American women participating in the Recite of Women's Health Across the Community Intellectual Health Study, a prospective examination of women transitioning ended menopause. Childhood abuse and neglect were measured once with the Minor Trauma Questionnaire.
Associations between maltreatment and vasomotor symptoms were estimated with generalized estimating equations. Results persisted in multivariable models and across diverse types of abuse and neglect. Conclusions: The action of childhood abuse and neglect is associated with increased vasomotor symptom reporting in adulthood. The sequelae of childhood abuse and neglect may carry on blooming into adulthood to energy the happening of vasomotor symptoms at midlife.
